WHAT IS MENOPAUSE?
What is menopause?

Menopause is defined as the state in which menstruation has completely stopped for 12 consecutive months, and pregnancy is no longer possible.

Why does menopause occur?

Menopause occurs when the ovaries stop producing eggs, and hormone levels such as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone fluctuate and decline. When these hormones become unstable, common perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms appear.

What is the average age at which menopause begins?

The average age for menopause is 51, but symptoms generally appear between the ages of 45 and 55. The symptoms leading up to menopause can last for up to 12 years (this period is known as perimenopause). Menopause generally progresses through three main stages: perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause (the period after menstruation has stopped for two consecutive years is known as postmenopause).

What are the first signs of perimenopause?

Perimenopause varies from woman to woman. The impact that perimenopause and menopausal symptoms have on you may be completely different from the impact they had on your friends or relatives. Perimenopause can also occur in women in their 30s. Perimenopausal symptoms can last for several months or even over 10 years. The most common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, memory problems, low mood, anxiety, and more (you may also experience other unexplained symptoms).
